Gozo experienced a bustling week during the Santa Marija festivities, continuing a trend from previous years where this period is especially busy for tourism.
Between Monday, August 12, and Sunday, August 18, Gozo Channel operated over 700 ferry trips with four vessels, at times adding unscheduled trips to meet the high demand.
During this week, the company transported around 135,660 passengers and 46,740 vehicles, numbers that closely match those from the same week last year.
Gozo Highspeed, which runs the fast ferry service between Valletta and Gozo, completed approximately 220 trips, carrying about 28,550 passengers.
Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, noted that this week once again fulfilled the expectations of the island’s tourism operators.
“We received very positive feedback, with all operators reporting full capacity during what is considered the peak week of summer,” Minister Camilleri stated.
He highlighted that these results demonstrate the effectiveness of the government’s efforts, as Gozo continues to attract a significant amount of both local and international tourists.
“With a wide variety of activities and the natural beauty of Gozo, we are becoming the top choice for many, and the feedback we’ve received has been extremely encouraging,” Minister Camilleri concluded.
