In the first quarter of 2024, there was a significant increase in travel figures compared to the same period in 2023, as reported by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Monday.
Trips across the specified routes rose by 9.8%, vehicle numbers grew by 5.8%, and passenger counts surged by 15.7%. Data from January to March 2024 highlights distinct traffic patterns, with vehicle traffic from Ċirkewwa peaking on Fridays and Thursdays, while the Mġarr terminal saw its highest vehicle traffic on Sundays and Mondays.
Passenger flow also followed a weekly cycle, with the busiest days from Ċirkewwa being Fridays and Saturdays. Conversely, the Mġarr terminal experienced the most passenger traffic on Sundays and Saturdays. March emerged as the busiest month of the quarter, accounting for 34.2% of the total trips, which were predominantly between Mġarr and Valletta.
Additionally, March saw the most passengers, representing 39.7% of the quarterly total, indicating a peak in travel activity during this month.
