One Rescued As Boat Overturns

Yesterday afternoon, Civil Protection Malta (CPD) teams from Fire Stations 4 and 5 responded to an overturned vessel just outside Marsaskala harbour.

The boat’s owner was rescued with minor injuries and treated on site by a team from Mater Dei Hospital’s Emergency Department. CPD personnel also assisted in recovering the vessel.

Following yesterday’s hard-fought 0-0 draw against Lithuania at Ta’ Qali, Malta secured their first point in the World Cup 2026 European Qualifiers.

Her Excellency President Miriam Spiteri Debono visited the national team in the dressing room. Accompanied by officials from the Malta Football Association and Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, she personally congratulated the players on securing their first point in the World Cup qualifying group.

Malta stepped onto the pitch wearing a limited edition replica of the 1957 national team shirt, celebrating 125 years of football on the island. The iconic red and white kit served as a powerful symbol of Malta’s footballing journey, legacy, and national pride.

Malta secured their first point in the FIFA World Cup 2026 European Qualifiers on Saturday evening, battling to a well-earned 0–0 draw against Lithuania at the National Stadium, Ta’ Qali.

The first half at Ta’ Qali saw Lithuania control possession, with Malta absorbing pressure and struggling to link play in the final third.
