An average of one person per flight has been restricted from boarding an Air Malta flight ever since travel restarted on June 11th. Despite the fact that Malta’s entry requirements are not stopping tourists from going on holidays, a spokesperson for AirMalta told Times of Malta that around 160 passengers have had to be turned away from boarding. This is due to insufficient documents, with many turning up with a rapid antigen instead of a PCR test or no test at all.
Presentation of vaccine certificates issued in Malta or negative swab PCR tests taken 72 hours before arrival provide quarantine-free entry into Malta. The trend is decreasing, stated the spokesperson, as many travellers are realising what it takes to travel to the island. He also pointed out that this is not an AirMalta only problem, and that people being turned away from flights signifies an airline committed to adhering to health directives.
