One “Lazy Day” Per Week May Help With Stress, Blood Pressure & Mental Health

Dec 1 2023 Share

In our fast-paced world filled with constant demands and obligations, the concept of a “lazy day” might seem counterintuitive, but research suggests that incorporating one into your week can have profound benefits for both physical and mental well-being.

A “lazy day” doesn’t imply mere idleness; rather, it involves a deliberate break from the relentless pace of daily life. This means refraining from ticking items off the to-do list, ignoring work-related emails and calls, and allowing yourself guilt-free indulgence in activities like napping, movie-watching, or engaging in hobbies like arts and crafts or gardening. This intentional downtime serves as a powerful antidote to stress and high blood pressure.

By granting yourself permission to fully disengage, you provide your body and mind with much-needed recovery time. This break is crucial for preventing burnout and lowering the risk of chronic diseases associated with prolonged stress. Moreover, embracing leisure activities without the pressure of productivity can significantly improve mental health.

In a world that glorifies constant hustle, recognising the value of a “lazy day” might just be the key to achieving a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. So, go ahead, take that nap, watch that movie, and relish in the simple joys that can contribute to a happier and healthier you.

The newly-pedestrianised square in Mosta has been revealed just in time for Christmas festivities. The Mosta Local Council, which recently faced criticism for the abrupt removal of mature ficus trees, has sought to usher in the holiday spirit by sharing captivating photos of the transformed square.

Adorned with festive decorations, the square boasts a golden Christmas tree at its centre, creating a picturesque scene for residents and visitors alike.

Despite recent controversies, Mosta is set to host a series of Christmas events in the lead-up to the holidays. The calendar includes musical performances, culinary events, a live crib, and various other activities for the community to enjoy. The initiative aims to bring the community together during the festive season, fostering a sense of unity and joy.

Labour Party President Ramona Attard has also weighed in on the development, sharing a photo of the newly-pedestrianised square and expressing her belief that, where feasible, all squares in Malta should aspire to emulate Mosta’s.

What do you think of the square?
