The flight made its way to Malta from Rome Fiumicino one last time.

‘Welcome to Malta International Airport’, the passengers were informed, before being thanked for their support these past five decades.

The longest serving cabin crew were selected for this historic final flight, with an official statement reading:

‘Since the first Boeing 720B touched down on Maltese soil on March 29th, 1974, ahead of our inaugural flight on 1st April 1974, until our final flight on March 30th, 2024, Air Malta has proudly represented Malta on the global stage.’

‘Moving forward, KM Malta Airlines will serve as the new national airline for the Maltese islands.’

This was the final call for the last Air Malta flight at the Fiumicino Rome airport, before the airline ended its services and makes way to KM Malta Airlines.

Despite a fast start from Ħamrun, it was Birkirkara who equalized through a powerful strike from Alex Satariano. Birkirkara took the lead with an own goal from Steve Borg, but Ħamrun fought back with Uros Duranovic converting a penalty.

Extra-time saw intense action, with both teams reduced to ten men. In a pivotal moment, Sylla replaced the goalkeeper and made decisive saves to secure Birkirkara’s 4-3 shootout victory, ending Ħamrun Spartans’ hopes of a treble.

The match ultimately culminated in Birkirkara’s triumph and advancement to the next stage of the FA Trophy.
