An 83-year-old Argentina football fan was photographed watching the World Cup on a chair outside through the window of an electronics store.

The photo of Carlos Bejar watching the semi-final victory over Croatia went viral. Bejar did not have cable TV and thus had to find an alternative to watching his team win their way to the final.

He informed local media that he lives close to the store and that he travelled there because he has no connection in his local area. The photo was retweeted well over 5000 times, earning him a massive gift.

Company Fravega gifted Carlos a 55-inch TV so he could watch the final against France from the comfort of his own home.

The elderly man was immensely grateful for his gift, but revealed that he still planned on returning to the store. ‘As long as they don’t throw me out there, I’ll be there’ he said.

The shop is located close to Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires, which received hundreds of thousands of football fans celebrating the Argentinian World Cup victory.

Dec 19 2022 Share

Millions are set to be unlocked for Malta pending final approval of the deal after the new year.

MEP David Casa announced a provisional agreement to set up a new multi-billion euro Social Climate Fund to help families and small businesses through the climate transition. David Casa was a lead negotiator after being appointed Social Climate Fund rapporteur for the Employment and Social Affairs Committee (EMPL) last year.

The Fund was provisionally agreed at €86.7 billion and will be financed through a historic carbon pricing mechanism, the flagship climate policy of the European Union which was agreed by fellow negotiators jointly with the Social Climate Fund. The Social Climate Fund is part of the “Fit for 55 in 2030 package”, which is the EU’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels in line with the European Climate Law.

Commenting on this, Maltese MEP said that this is positive news for our energy needs, the climate and all citizens. “We are the closest ever toward ensuring that the climate transition will be fairer and more socially inclusive,” Casa said.

PN MEP Casa thanked his co-rapporteur on behalf of the ENVI Committee, EPP MEP Esther de Lange for the excellent cooperation throughout the past year. He also expressed his gratitude to his shadow rapporteurs who represented all other European political parties during the negotiations.

Parliament will start voting today

Dec 19 2022 Share

Today, Maltese Members of Parliament will start voting on an amendment to the Criminal Code to clarify the legal position of the attending physician and the mother in circumstances where the pregnancy leads to the mother suffering from a medical complication that could put her life at risk or health in grave danger.

The Nationalist Party is saying that this bill will mean the introduction of abortion in Malta. The Labour Party has continued to deny this argument that this Bill will clarify situations that occur when medical professionals agree that the pregnancy should be terminated due to a medical complication that could put the mother’s life at risk or in grave danger.

In a session that starts today at 1pm, the Parliament will start voting on this Bill. Sources are indicating that all PL MPs will be voting in favour whilst PN MPs will be voting against.

The discussion on this Bill is at Second Reading stage and the Parliament will be voting on the Bill as presented by the Government. After this stage, this Bill will be discussed in a Parliament Committee, before a final vote, early in 2023.
