Official EURO IG Page Highlights Carragher Debut With Malta

The official Instagram page of UEFA EURO 2024 took to Instagram to highlight the official debut of James Carragher, the son of ex-England international Jamie Carragher, with Malta’s national team.

Malta’s head coach Emilio De Leo announced that Carragher would be joining the official roster of players for the 2026 Fifa World Cup European Qualifiers.

The video amassed around 22K likes, with it being shared to a page boasting around 17.9M followers.

The 22 year old Wigan Athletic defender, who recently gained Maltese citizenship through his grandfather, was handed his first start in Malta’s qualifier against Finland.

His father, Jamie Carragher, also attended the match and shared his pride on social media.

James’ father was even joined by Prime Minister Robert Abela and Sport Minister Clifton Grima to watch the match, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Maltese team.

The theme for SkolaSajf 2025, “Gżejjer Maġiċi” (Magical Islands), was officially announced during a press release marking the opening of applications for this year’s Skolasajf programme.

The announcement took place during a visit from the ministry of education, sport, youth, research and innovation to Msida Primary School, where details about SkolaSajf 2025 were shared and this year’s logo was unveiled.

The logo, designed by Javad Schembri, was selected through a competition, and the winning student is from Msida Primary School, where the launch event was held.

Minister Clifton Grima, spoke about the programme, stating, “As with previous editions, this year’s SkolaSajf will be an excellent service that reflects the realities and needs of our society. Over the course of eight weeks, children will embark on an exciting journey around Malta and Gozo to explore both tangible and intangible aspects of our culture, natural beauty, and social structures.”

In response to parliamentary questions, Minister Byron Camilleri tabled the information relating to deaths in prison.

According to the information tabled, there were 15 suicides between the years 2000 and 2021.

For some of the years, the information was not available, but according to the data wherein information was available, there were 15 between 2000 and 2021, climbing to 16 between 2022 & 2025.

Between 2022 and 2025, only 1 suicide was recorded, which, the Minister said, should be viewed in light of the measures taken to ensure the health and wellbeing of the inmates.

According to tabled data, the average population of the prison was set at 748 in 2021, with the three deaths in 2021 all being suicides.

Heavy traffic is being reported across the island, with car tail-ways extending to various spots this morning.

According to Facebook page ‘Maltese Roads Traffic Updates’, a collision was reported on the way to Mater Dei Hospital and Birkirkara.

This comes as the government plans to pay around €25,000 for anyone willing to give up their driving license.

This is part of a scheme to tackle the traffic situation in Malta, with other measures being discussed.

According to a poll held by MaltaDaily, around 31% of respondents were ready to give up their license for the amount.
