Even if it’s been a while since you stepped foot in a classroom, September brings all the back to school feels, but there’s still an entire month of summer left to enjoy! And with so many activities and events to choose from, this month is perfect for experiencing Gozo. Here are four reasons why a September weekender in Gozo is a great idea:
1. Levant, Gozo’s Music Festival
Kick off your September with a vibrant evening of music at Levant, Gozo’s Music Festival. Now in its second year, this free festival brings together top, local artists, creating an unforgettable musical experience. This year, the Levant stage will host Mae band, Musea Orchestra, Junior B, and Tribali. The night promises a fusion of music, including orchestral covers of well-known pop and rock numbers, electronic beats, and the mystic blend of world music, psychedelic sounds and ska and reggae that’s now synonymous with Tribali. Entrance is free, and no prior booking is needed! Follow the event page for more details.
2. Quaint Villages and Historic Sites
Gozo is known for its picturesque villages, each with its unique charm and character. Take a stroll through the narrow streets of Rabat, or sit down for a relaxing coffee at one of the many lovely squares across the island. What’s more – the weather in September is a bit more forgiving, perfect for exploring one of the many historic and archeological sites. The Ġgantija Temples and the neighbouring Ta’ Kola Windmill are well worth a visit, as is the Citadella.

What’s a trip to the sister island without a memorable meal for good measure? From delicious ftiras, to delicious Gozo cheeselets drizzled with local olive oil, or a fish feast at a seaside restaurant – there are plenty of eateries to choose from, catering for every budget.
4. Festivals and Cultural Events
Levant isn’t the only event happening in Gozo in September. The island’s cultural calendar is full to the brim with a mix of musical, artistic and cultural events for young people, families, and solo travellers. From music performances in various squares during the week, to Jum il-Vitorja on 7 September, with reenactments commemorating the Great Seige and the Second World War, and family fun at Santa Lucija on September 10 – there really is something for everyone! Check out the publication Summer in Gozo for a full calendar of events.
