Nurse’s Union accuse Health Ministry of fake news due to no Mount Carmel refurbishments

The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses says are concerned as no refurbishment of more decrepit wards seems to be taking place. The union lamented this since they were allegedly promised a €6 million investment to refurbish the old mental health hospital. With wards closed off seven years ago and more to be closed in the coming weeks, the union accused the health authorities of abandonment and that promises of refurbishment were simply fake news.

The union stated that ‘no investment has materialised at Mount Carmel Hospital except for the re-allocation of chronic patients.’ The MUMN added that staff frequently encounters difficulty finding new beds for admissions, resulting in a lack of dignity for patients.

Robert Abela calls for solidarity for one more push against COVID-19

With the start of Easter festivities, Prime Minister Robert Abela took to Facebook to request from the public another push for solidarity and responsibility. Abela stated that even though the sacrifices and vaccination programme issued to mitigate the spread, new measures will have to be put into effect until the 11th of April.

As of Wednesday 31st March, only two people will be allowed together outside in public places unless they are of the same residence. Fines for those found breaking this regulation will also be increased. Persons travelling to Malta from countries which are in green zone will either be required to present a swab testing negative or have it done in Malta.

The Prime Minister asked the public to take care of one another so we can start on the road to normalcy with consistency to the vaccination and mitigation plans.

Sunny Sunday troubles police force as people flock to public places

Apart from the longer, sunny days, the last Sunday of March brought with it masses of people flocking to public places such as beaches and parks, some even breaching COVID-19 measures issued by the health authorities.

Multiple TikToks went viral and garnered thousands of views after capturing officials notifying individuals and groups breaching the virus mitigation measures.

This is after Superintendent for Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci, along with Prime Minister Robert Abela announced a new measure allowing only a maximum of 2 people to convene in public places.

Video of Ramiro Mallia requesting aid for Puttinu goes viral after his passing

The news of Ramiro Mallia’s passing shocked all of Malta after the youth sadly passed away due to a leakage in a heater. As many have discovered by now, Ramiro was a cancer survivor at a very young age and has repeatedly supported Puttinu Cares for their help to people suffering with cancer.

A video published to Facebook on 11th September 2019 of Ramiro calling the public to donate to Puttinu is now going viral. In it, Ramiro talks about how distressing the process of discovering a loved one is diagnosed with something as horrible as cancer. In calling for people to help Puttinu Cares who in turn help hundreds of people, the video captures exactly how much of a genuine and caring person Ramiro was. Malta has lost a very thoughtful and compassionate soul indeed. RIP Ramiro.
