During Tuesday Labour Party’s political rally in Mosta, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure & Capital Projects Ian Borg expressed his disapproval of PN leader Bernard Grech’s recent remarks that he would turn the Labour headquarters into ODZ land.

“Don’t even say it as a joke, don’t joke about our home”, Borg said to a roaring audience in central Mosta. The Minister went on to state that after the election, the Labour Party begins to work on what was promised, highlighting that the Government implemented projects in over 33 residential roads in Mosta. “Do us a favour, not even as a joke, don’t say it about our home; it’s not funny and no one laughed,” he stated.

Safe sex work among Volt Malta’s manifesto proposals

Safe sex work among Volt Malta’s manifesto proposals

Volt Malta has just released its electoral manifesto on Tuesday, focusing on everything from safeguarding sex workers as well as wellbeing of workers and euthanasia.

Drawing inspiration from New Zealand and Dutch models for their policies, Volt have proposed focusing on the empowerment of sex workers, including even harsher sentences for human traffickers.

The manifesto, released Tuesday, seeks to present a socially progressive and economically balanced manifesto with several ideas which other parties did not address. The party even embraced the Portuguese model when it comes to recreational drugs, such as decriminalising all drug users and addicts. This comes as Malta is set to decriminalise marijuana.

Euthanasia also featured in the manifesto, with the party detailing different types of euthanasia and how it would aim to approach the subject with the focus being on the individual’s choice.

When it comes to the education system, the party put forth different proposals which include the reduction of mandatory exams an assessments as well as an overhaul of syllabi to trim out excess information and highlight other areas. These accompany life tools such as financial literacy and civid education, as well as creating an artist-centric commune which trains artists in all sorts of disciplines.

Volt Malta currently currently has two candidates, Thomas Kassandra Mallia and Alexia Debono.

Five dead as Russian missiles hit Kyiv TV tower & holocaust memorial in Ukraine

Five dead as Russian missiles hit Kyiv TV tower & holocaust memorial in Ukraine

Ukraine’s main television tower in Kyiv fell victim to an air attack, leaving five dead and another five injured, Ukraine’s State Service for Emergency Situations has reported.

The country’s Interior Ministry has reported that channels will not work for a while after a loud blast was heard in the Babi Yar district, with missiles also hitting the country’s most significant holocaust memorial. “To the world: what is the point of saying ‘never again’ for 80 years, if the world stays silent when a bomb drops on the same site of Babyn Yar? At least 5 killed. History repeating,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

One of Ukraine’s English-language news platforms ‘The Kyiv Independent’ corroborated such reports, stating that local TV channels have stopped broadcasting shortly after the attack.

Vandalism on election banners of both parties spotted

Vandalism on election banners of both parties spotted
Mar 1 2022 Share

Photographs sent to this newsroom show election banners of both parties being vandalised in various localities.

Banners of both Labour and Nationalist parties can be seen having their words and mottos marked with reddish stripes, cutting out the mottos. This does not seem to be an act of partisanship as both parties’ banners were vandalised, showing an equal disapproval of both parties.

Labour’s ‘Malta Flimkien’ and the Nationalist motto ‘Miegħek Għal Malta’ can be seen cut out by the marking, a common occurrence during election time. Despite many rallying to their favourite party in anticipation of the election, not all on the island seem to be enthusiastic about the overall atmosphere.
