Reuse Centres Raise €110,000 to Protect Malta’s Environment

Reuse Centres Raise €110,000 to Protect Malta’s Environment
Jun 15 2025 Share

Over 30,000 people have visited Malta and Gozo’s Reuse Centres since they opened in 2022. These centres take old but useful items and sell them at low prices, instead of sending them to landfills.

The money made from the sales – around €110,000 is going straight into projects that help the environment. One of these projects is a large bee sanctuary in Wied Fulija, Żurrieq.

This special area helps protect Malta’s native honeybee, which is very important for pollination and nature.

The Tal-Kus Reuse Centre in Gozo was visited by Environment Minister Miriam Dalli and Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri. They saw how the centres are turning old items into something good for the planet. Minister Dalli said the centres show how looking after the environment can bring big rewards. She also said they are a great example of a circular economy, where nothing goes to waste.

Minister Camilleri said the project has worked well in Gozo. Many families have brought in items they no longer need, which are then bought by others. This reduces waste and helps people save money too.

The first centre opened in Ħal Far, and now there are more in Gozo (Xewkija), Ħal Luqa and Imrieħel. People can also drop off items at Civic Amenity Sites across the islands.

WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca said the public’s support is strong and shows more people are choosing to live in a greener, smarter way.
