The DOI post provided a brief history of Halloween, tracing its origins to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a tradition dating back 2,000 years.

Samhain marked the end of the harvest, with villagers gathering on the night of October 31 to light bonfires, offer sacrifices, and dress in animal-skin costumes to honor the dead. In keeping with this tradition, people carved faces into vegetables like turnips to ward off spirits, a practice that has evolved into today’s familiar jack-o’-lanterns.

Now, Maltese residents are reimagining this centuries-old festival, infusing it with local flavor as they transform their homes into spooky spectacles. The community’s enthusiasm and creativity reflect Halloween’s growing appeal in Malta, adding a fresh twist to this ancient celebration.
