Manchester City clinch third consecutive Premier League title

May 20 2023 Share

Manchester City secured their status as Premier League champions for the third consecutive season, thanks to a defeat suffered by title rivals Arsenal at the hands of Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners, who had been at the top of the table for most of the campaign, find themselves four points behind City with just one game remaining.

Under the guidance of manager Pep Guardiola, Manchester City has now claimed the Premier League title in five of the last six seasons. Their recent triumph also puts them in the running for a historic Treble, as they prepare for the FA Cup and Champions League finals scheduled for next month.

The Treble has only been accomplished once before by Manchester United in the 1998-99 season.

City will be presented with the trophy after their match against Chelsea on Sunday, solidifying their position as champions for the ninth time in the club’s history.

Just over a month ago, they were trailing Arsenal by eight points on April 7th, although City had played one game less than Mikel Arteta’s team at that point.

The remarkable turnaround saw City win 11 consecutive league matches and drop only two points out of a possible 42, enabling them to overtake Arsenal and seal the title with three games remaining.

Their quest has been fuelled by the incredible goal-scoring record of Erling Haaland. The 22-year-old Norwegian phenomenon has netted an impressive 52 goals in 48 games across all competitions, including a record-breaking 36 goals in 33 Premier League appearances.

Haaland’s scoring prowess has made him the second player in English top-flight history to surpass the 50-goal mark in a single season, a feat not accomplished in 95 years. He shattered the Premier League record for goals in a season with his 35th strike in early March.

Amidst their triumphant season, Manchester City faced charges from the Premier League concerning more than 100 breaches of financial regulations following a four-year investigation.

Judges in tears as Brillanti Dancers take them on emotional rollercoaster

This week’s episode of Brillanti Dance proved to be a tear-jerker after the Social Media challenge resulted in four bottom acts having to go against each other in the dance off.

Prior to the water works, the dancers all showed a snippet of an already filmed routine which they then recreated live for the judges.

Some dancers were in their element, having become accustomed to having a social media presence over the years. Others had to adapt to the challenge and bring their style to worlds of Instagram and TikTok.

After much deliberation, the judging panel, comprised of Joseph, Brenda, Patrick, Attila and local singer Gaia Cauchi, picked the bottom four.

The four acts, comprised of Federica Nicastro, Julia Vella Rosso, Rosario Ranieri and duo Mishelle and Juliana, gave it their all. The performances struck a nerve with both Patrick and Attila who had to get up and hug the dancers after their delivery.

But, unlike last week, eliminations had to take place, and this time it was Rosario and Julia’s turns to pack and go home. The dancers’ numbers are dwindling as the last semifinal is just around the corner.

Find out who makes it to the finale of Brillanti Dance next week on ONE at 2030hrs! You can also rewatch last night’s episode here.
