Newest MP Hints At School Time & Homework Reform

In her ‘maiden speech’ in parliament, Labour MP Ramona Attard has called for a national homework reform, questioning whether children should spend their after-school hours doing homework instead of enjoying their childhood.

Attard said that the option should not be to extend school hours or work hours.

As an alternative, she proposed an additional hour at school where students could complete extra work under the supervision of peers, Learning Support Educators (LSEs), or teachers willing to work overtime.

She also noted that some teachers of non-core subjects struggle to find students for private lessons, suggesting this system could benefit them.

Attard highlighted that the current homework system creates inequality, favouring students with a supportive home environment while disadvantaging those who lack such support.

Champagne Sales Fizz Out Amid Economic Woes

Champagne Sales Fizz Out Amid Economic Woes
Jan 29 2025 Share

Champagne shipments worldwide took a significant hit in 2024, falling 9.2% to 271.4 million bottles.

Economic uncertainties, inflation, and global political tensions have all contributed to a downturn in celebratory occasions, causing many consumers to rethink their spending on luxury items like Champagne.

In France, the heart of Champagne consumption, the market dropped 7.2%, while exports fared worse, declining 10.8%. The downturn was also reflected in the performance of LVMH, the luxury giant behind several Champagne brands, which reported a 15% dip in sales for the first half of the year.

The industry has also been impacted by weather challenges, including frost and excessive humidity, which damaged grape harvests and further complicated production.

As consumer confidence remains low, the Champagne sector faces a tough road ahead.
