New Zealanders attend post-pandemic concert after ‘crushing the curve’

While the rest of the world may be smack bang in the middle of a pandemic, New Zealanders have had a more pleasant start to 2021 as revellers attended NZ’s biggest outdoor concert since the start of the pandemic.

Thousands of citizens headed to Waitangi for a concert held by Six60 as the country registered 76 cases of COVID-19 since January 15, with the total infection count at 2,246.

New Zealand’s handling of the virus has been described as ‘crushing the curve’ by the World Health Organisation and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been commended for her performance in handling the pandemic.

Apple is reportedly developing ‘Apple Glasses’ which can unlock a users apple devices which are in close proximity.

Apple had applied for this patent in 2019 and is proposed to be able to unlock a device using actions such as spatial orientation, voice command and body or eye gesture.

2020 marked the most excess deaths in the UK since WWII

The UK has registered the highest number of excess death rates since WWII.

697,000 deaths were recorded last year, 91,000 more than the average over the past 5 years.

Richard Murray, chief executive of The King’s Fund, said that,

“The UK has one of the highest rates of excess deaths in the world, with more excess deaths per million people than most other European countries or the US. It will take a public inquiry to determine exactly what went wrong, but mistakes have been made.”
