A 56-year-old woman tested positive for the virus after being release from isolation following four months in Spain and the Netherlands, marking New Zealand’s first COVID-19 community case after over two months of being COVID-free.
The woman had received two negative tests following her arrival from London and went on to visit around 30 different locations where soon after, she started to experience mild symptoms and tested positive on 23 January.
The woman and her husband are currently in self-isolation, with contacts and locations being traced thanks to the woman’s recording of her movements.
It is currently unclear whether or not there was transmission within the community as sequencing and tracing are currently under way.
