Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg announced that 50 drivers monthly who acquire their licenses over a period of four months will be able to apply for a free first aid course. The initiative is first-come-first-serve, with the project being in association with Malta Road Safety Council, Transport Malta and Touring Club Malta. The scheme is also being worked out with Malta Red Cross and with financial aid from FIA.
The time span in question is between June and September 2021, with Minister Ian Borg stating that the purpose of the project is to not only offer opportunities for the youth but also reduce the number of incidents on the road. The minister highlighted the time span in between the accident and the arrival of official medical care, and stated that this initiative can also help throughout this period and reduce mortality from car accidents.
