In a significant step towards a more efficient and modern public transport system, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett has announced a new Park & Ride service from the Addolorata car park.
This initiative forms part of the “Reshaping our Mobility” strategy, aimed at offering new transport alternatives while improving existing services.
The Park & Ride facility, located in Raħal Ġdid, can currently accommodate over 220 vehicles and will offer direct connections to the town centre, Mater Dei Hospital, and the University of Malta via two new routes.
Launching on 13 July, the service is part of broader efforts to reduce congestion in urban centres by providing reliable alternatives to private vehicles.
Minister Bonett highlighted that the service will benefit both residents and businesses by improving access to Raħal Ġdid. Plans are already underway to extend similar services to other areas, including Ta’ Qali, which will connect Rabat, Mosta, and Naxxar.
This announcement comes a day after the inauguration of the new breakwater and ferry landing in Buġibba, which paves the way for the Tallinja bil-Baħar initiative, integrating land and sea transport into a multimodal mobility network.
The route changes and service expansions will take effect from 13 July.
