Yesterday the MFA announced a new rule which will see local referees have the ability to halt and abandon games if racist abuse is present from either the crowd or on the pitch.

There will be a 3-step procedure every match. Step number one will be communication from the referee and match officials to the supporters by the use of the PA system. They will tell supporters to calm down and stop, but if the abuse keeps on going after the match is restarted then the referee will halt the match for a few minutes. If the abuse continues even after the halt, then the referee can abandon the game and the racism case will be referred to the Control, Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.
These rules will hopefully eradicate all type of abuse in football. Football should be a community where you are left to let free not to be abused because of your race, religion or sexuality.
