Legend has it that she first showcased her iconic hip-shaking dance moves at the age of four on a table in a Lebanese restaurant in the same city. Sharing the momentous occasion on Instagram, the “Hips Don’t Lie” artist expressed her excitement for the tribute to Colombian women, particularly the Barranquilleras.

Capturing her trademark hip swivel, the statue stands as a testament to Shakira’s cultural impact. In heartfelt posts, she shared images of her parents standing proudly before the monumental figure, expressing gratitude for the artistic talent displayed by sculptor Yino Márquez and his students.

While the bronze statue is substantial, it falls short of claiming the title for the largest pop icon statue, a distinction held by the 26-ft Forever Marilyn tribute to Marilyn Monroe in Palm Springs.

Beyond this artistic honour, Shakira’s recent headlines include the release of “El Jefe,” a song addressing her ex-partner Gerard Piqué, and settling a tax fraud case in Spain, where she paid a substantial fine to avoid trial, emphasising personal reasons and prioritising her career and family over a prolonged legal battle.
