New Glow In The Dark Roads Tested Out in Australia

A one-kilometer stretch of an Australian highway now features glow-in-the-dark markings aimed at enhancing safety during night driving. Tarmac Linemarking, an Australian company, conducted a trial of the new photoluminescent linemarkings in collaboration with OmniGrip and Vic Roads.

Photoluminescent paint is a widely used product found in various items, ranging from children’s toys to the hands of watches. Once darkness falls, the coating releases the stored light, acquired during daylight hours, thereby enhancing visibility for both vehicles and pedestrians during the night.

Following the positive outcome of the trial run, Tarmac Linemarking disclosed that businesses and councils are eager to implement this technology to illuminate their pathways.

The markings can be also used for other applications, including dark carparks and boat ramps, and not just for roads.

Fire Erupts Close To Mdina After a Fireworks Show

A fire broke out on Monday night just outside Mdina shortly after the conclusion of a fireworks show celebrating the feast of St. Joseph in nearby Rabat.

The police are currently investigating the possible connection between the flames near Mdina with the fireworks display from Rabat’s feast of St. Joseph.

Footage sent to Malta Daily shows the flames engulfing the area near Mdina with police also present at the site.

The police also communicated that no injuries or damages have been reported.

On Tuesday, Rabat is commemorating the feast of St. Joseph, who is revered as the patron saint of families, fathers, and laborers. In Malta, March 19th is observed as a public holiday.

New Banksy Piece Emerges In North London

A tree mural on the facade of some apartments in North London has been claimed by world renowned street artist Banksy after confirming the mural as his in an Instagram post, following speculation after the work appeared on a building on Hornsey Road in Finsbury Park overnight.⁠

The artwork which is painted on a wall behind a tree also features a life-sized portrayal of a woman wielding a pressure washer, seen spraying green paint up the side of the wall. Given the wall is behind a tree, the collection of green paint mimics the leaves and branches of a tree that has been removed due to a process known as pollarding.

Many people gathered to see the artwork on Monday morning. Wanja Sellers, who lives nearby on Hornsey Road, expressed her pride and joy, saying, “We’re so proud and delighted that Banksy chose our road and chose Finsbury Park for his work.”

Before creating this piece, Banksy’s last confirmed artwork was in December. He painted military drones onto a stop sign in Peckham, South London. Unfortunately, the artwork was removed less than an hour after Banksy confirmed its authenticity on social media. Witnesses reported that a man used bolt cutters to take it down. Subsequently, two men were arrested on suspicion of theft and criminal damage.

Over 60,000 people gathered in St. Julian’s to partake in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Street Celebrations, marking yet another successful year of festivities dedicated to Ireland’s patron saint.

This event has solidified its status as a key date in Malta’s social calendar, drawing vast crowds eager to join in the celebrations. The Big G’s and Quenchers Street Party was held in collaboration with Malta Daily and hosted by David and Mizzi G, with some of Malta’s finest DJs on music selection duty.

The massive gather gathering not only demonstrated Malta’s enthusiasm for anything party-related but also the effective planning and collaboration between stakeholders to create a memorable experience.

Following the festivities, Malta’s Cleansing Department undertook a significant cleanup operation, removing 15 tonnes of waste from St. Julian’s.
