New directives for MUMN members to stay home with their children if required

The Malta Union for Midwives and Nurses issued a directive concerning those of its members who have children, informing them that should they have nowhere to keep their children, they should stay at home. The directive also applies, according to the MUMN, to all cases of of foster, adopted and/or guardianship. Members are to send an email to management informing them of their compliance with the directive and specifying the dates when it will be in use.

An MUMN spokesperson stated that facilities for children are being set up as from Monday 15th March 2021 and has no objection for members willing to send children to these care facilities. Since schools are closed for safety reasons however, concerns were raised as to whether the centres themselves will be safe and how children will undertake online learning.

Wife and son with grievous injuries after dog attack in Ta’ Qali

A man by the name of Garvan Keating took to FaceBook on Wednesday to warn people, especially parents, that his own wife and son were savagely attacked by a dog in Ta’ Qali. Backed up by photos showcasing the injuries, he informed the public that his wife and two children, one 6-year-old and one 11-year-old, were exercising in the park when a Rottweiler attacked them.

The dog first chased the 6-year-old boy, after turning his attention to the wife who, desperately trying to stop the attack, suffered from injuries on her neck and arm. According to the man, the dog owner did not intervene immediately and left the scene with the dog without offering any assistance.

Ghadira’s new parking gets new line markings as work continues

Work on Ghadira’s new parking has continued, with Projects Plus revealing the line markings painted on the new parking grounds. The parking will be able to accommodate around 350 cars, with parkings reserved for disability access.

Transport Minister Ian Borg had previously shared an image of the lot at night, testing the area’s lighting system and claiming that, come Summer, the parking will be available for the public to use. Italy under lockdown after COVID-19 wave strains hospitals

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has stated that schools, restaurants, shops and museums will be closing as of next week as a new wave of COVID-19 has swept the country and put a massive strain on hospitals. With the new variants spreading the virus even faster, a majority of regions such as Milan and Rome were classified high-risk red zones by Health Minister Roberto Speranza.

Residents were informed to avoid going out unless completely necessary as the new restrictions last until Easter, with all of Italy becoming a red-zone. Draghi stated that more than 150,000 cases were reported last week, overloading Italy’s hospitals and care units. Meanwhile, Italy is still undergoing its vaccination campaign started in late December but is struggling due to delays in deliveries.
