Through a Collective Agreement signed, the conditions of work and the financial package for administrative, technical, and industrial workers at the University of Malta will be strengthened, benefiting 940 employees.
The agreement which will be covered until 2027 was officially signed by by the President of the University Council, Perit Karmenu Vella, Professor Alfred J. Vella, the Rector of the University, Josef Vella, Isabelle Farrugia, Noel Caruana, and Nathalie Cauchi on behalf of the General Workers’ Union.
Present at the signing of the agreement were Minister for Education, Sports, Youth, Research, and Innovation, Clifton Grima, along with Permanent Secretary Matthew Vella and Thomas Woods, the Head of the Industrial Relations Unit within the Office of the Prime Minister. They all expressed their satisfaction with the agreement.
About the agreement, Minister Grima stated that “This is another collective agreement that we are signing, which demonstrates our commitment to investing in our greatest resource, our human resource. This agreement strengthens working conditions and the financial package, while introducing other measures that collectively not only reflect today’s realities but also enhance opportunities for career progression for these workers.”
Joseph Vella, Executive Head of the General Workers’ Union also expressed his satisfaction with the collective agreement citing that it will improve worker’s conditions, better their pay and also offer workers at the University of Malta more flexibility.
Professor Alfred J. Vella, the Rector of the University, emphasized that without administrative support, an institution like the University cannot function effectively.
