Tinder Turns 10: Here are some fun facts

Tinder Turns 10: Here are some fun facts
Sep 25 2022 Share

Most of us are familiar with the app – many of us have in fact used it. And some of us even got lucky by finding that special someone with the right swipe that was meant to be.

Tinder turned 10 years old this September, having been released in the same month back in 2012. The dating app matches users based on geographic proximity and even patented the swipe interface.

If two users both like each other, then the match allows them to chat through the app itself. But this is stuff you already probably know. So to celebrate the app’s 10 year birthday, here are some more facts about this renowned dating game-changer.

The app was founded in 2012 in Hatch Labs, a startup incubator run by InterActiveCorp (former parent company of Match Group). Sean Rad (former CEO and chairman) and Justin Mateen (former CMO), who had met at the University of Southern California, designed the match-making algorithm.

It was found that Tinder made $1.6 billion revenue in 2021, which is a 17% increase on the previous year. With 75 million monthly active users and 9.6 million subscribers in 2021, 60% of these users were under 35 years old.

Three quarters of users are male, and this demographic is more likely to swipe right 46% of the time. Women on the other hand are likely to swipe right just about 14%.

80% of people on Tinder are looking for a serious relationship and this hubby hunting mainly occurs between 8 and 9pm. Despite men being more likely to swipe right, more women are likely to message a match first at 21%, whereas men message first 7% of the time.

Skunk spotted running around San Blas, Malta

Skunk spotted running around San Blas, Malta

A video uploaded to social media shows what seems to be a skunk running around the San Blas area in Malta.

What’s peculiar about this sighting is that skunks are not native mammals to the islands, suggesting that the little fellow is an escaped animal from some enclosure or residence in the vicinity.

It is unclear whether the skunk is still loose in the vicinity or whether it was picked up by authorities following the posting of this video.

Skunks are known for their ability to spray a liquid with a strong, unpleasant scent from their anal glands. The animals are primarily nocturnal and can survive in different habitats such as deserts, forests and mountains. Some are also known to grow to the size of a house cat.

Starring Evan Peters as the notorious serial killer, the series takes on the perspective of his victims as well as the police incompetency which allowed the Wisconsin native to go on a killing spree spanning years.

A look at Rotten Tomatoes shows that audience scores were far higher than critics’, as the latter gave the series a 50% rating despite there being no consensus as of yet.

However, the main critique seems to be coming from the families involved in the killings. One of the cousins of the victims revealed that, given its autobiographical nature, the show is ‘re-traumatising over and over again.’
