Local heroes Neil Agius and Fabio Spiteri embarked on a 12-hour community charity swim yesterday, aiming to raise funds and awareness for Inspire Malta.
Neil Agius, an ultra-distance swimmer holding the world record for the longest unassisted ocean swim, and Fabio Spiteri, a seasoned triathlon coach and record holder, accomplished this feat. For Spiteri, it marked his longest swim to date.
Their objective was to advocate for swimming accessibility for all children, emphasising its potential to provide safety and enjoyment for families, with all proceeds are intended to improve swimming programs and facilities for children through Inspire Malta.
Starting at 7 am and concluding at 7 pm, the 12-hour swim took place at Neptunes Pool in St. Julian’s. Throughout the day, various individuals, from Neil and Fabio’s friends to young swimmers, joined in to offer encouragement and support. Notable figures, including opposition leader Bernard Grech, were present to cheer on Neil and Fabio.
The swim concluded at 7 pm, with Neil Agius having swum a total of 44 km during the marathon.
