On February 4, World Cancer Day, the Nationalist Party stated that Malta must be more ambitious in its approach of cancer treatment, diagnosis and cure.
During a recent conference at Mater Dei’s Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre, PN Chief Spokesperson Peter Agius together with Health Shadow Minister Stephen Spiteri said that the Government prioritises profit over public interest in this sector, with Dr. Spiteri highlighting that the PN is presenting these 13 proposals which include ways of appropriate investment. Spiteri went on to say that further proposals include the way forward with regards to improving patients’ and their families’ quality of life whilst also providing a Government-led drug fund for prescribed medicine for cancer patients.
Further proposals include bilateral arrangements for Maltese patients to be sent to specialised oncology centres across Europe. The Nationalist Party is also proposing the inauguration of a walk-in clinic for cancer patients within the oncology centre, without the need for these individuals to visit Mater Dei.
What do you make of these proposals?
