Roberta Metsola Addresses 7 Days & Nights Of Power Cuts
Jul 24 2023 Share

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola took to social media to share her thoughts on the ongoing power cuts hitting the country, after having already addressed the situation prior to her latest post.

‘The seventh long day and night of massive blackouts across Malta and Gozo has enraged everyone. People are tired of the same excuses. We need to fix this country of ours. We can fix this country of ours.’

Going on to say that Malta can ‘excel, create, re-imagine and lead’, Metsola said that ‘we do not need mediocrity and amateurism to be the hallmarks of those taking the decisions.’

Saying that we can build better, ‘with real enforceable standards’ and ‘incentive to restore instead of tear down’, Metsola said that legislation needs to be passed on ‘the right to light’ and ensure that everyone can harness solar energy and ‘not only clean our air but lower bills by selling back to the grid’.

‘We can create new niches, new jobs and new hope. We can ensure young people are not priced out of the property market and ensure the elderly have more than the bare minimum to live with dignity’, wrote the President.

‘Until 2027 we are in line for €2.2 billion in EU funds, and hundreds of millions more in recovery funding. From the European Parliament we will make sure they are spent properly. That’s how we transform our country’, she continued, saying that we can end the ‘constant division of our society into red and blue tribes.’
