Wife of the Prime Minister Dr. Lydia Abela collaborated with Education, Sports, Youth, Research, and Innovation Minister Clifton Grima to host a National Sports Day at Marsa Sports Complex. The event drew students from numerous schools across Malta and Gozo for a day filled with sports activities. Dr. Abela emphasized the values promoted by sports, such as inclusivity, respect, and discipline, underscoring their importance in children’s education. She expressed gratitude to all participants, particularly the children, for their active involvement.
Minister Grima reiterated the government’s dedication to fostering children’s participation in sports throughout the year, advocating for a healthier lifestyle. He encouraged society to recognize the significance of physical activity and increase engagement in sports.
Mark Cutajar, CEO of SportMalta, highlighted the importance of dedicating a specific day to sports activities, ensuring active participation. SportMalta’s initiatives, including the #BeActive campaign and European Week of Sport, aim to promote physical activity. The ministry is investing in school infrastructure to improve sports facilities for recreation and sports education.
The event featured various sports and activities like Zumba, races, and obstacle courses, fostering a culture of physical activity and healthy living among youth.
