Myriam Spiteri Debono was officially sworn in as President of Malta today, after a series of ceremonies in Valletta.

One key tradition is a mass at St. John’s Co-Cathedral, which is always part of the day when Malta gets a new president.

Spiteri Debono, who is 71 years old, has a background as a notary and has been a long-time member of the Labour Party in Malta. Today, she made history by becoming the 11th president of the country. Her new role means she will be a leader for all Maltese people, guiding the nation on important issues and representing Malta both at home and abroad.

Malta’s top personnel are present to see the ceremony dedicated to the country’s new president, including Prime Minister Robert Abela, Leader of Opposition Bernard Grech and former President George Vella who only finished his official duties yesterday after 5 years.

Roberta Metsola recently expressed her gratitude and pride upon receiving the YMCA Europe’s Roots for Peace Award, which she accepted in Brussels.

In her acknowledgment, the President of the European Parliament articulated a deep appreciation for the distinction, emphasising her dual identity as both Maltese and European. Metsola lauded the European Parliament’s steadfast dedication to advocating for universal values such as peace, freedom, democracy, and the safeguarding of fundamental rights.

She extended her thanks to YMCA Europe for not only bestowing this honour upon her but also for its commendable efforts in empowering the next generation. Metsola underscored the collaborative endeavour towards fostering a more equitable and inclusive European society.

The Roots for Peace Award is a keystone initiative of YMCA Europe, aimed at galvanising stronger youth engagement in the peaceful resolution of conflicts across the continent.

Missing 15-Year-Old Girl Found Safe & Sound

The Malta Police Force has reported that 15-year-old Milica Vukicevic has been found, after being reported missing a week ago.

On Wednesday, the Police published a photo of Vukicevic calling upon the public to share any information or report any sightings of the young girl with police at their earliest.

The Police have thanked the public for their information and assistance.

President-elect Myriam Spiteri Debono Arrives as St. John’s Co-Cathedral

Newly President elect Dr Myriam Spiteri Debono, has entered St John’s Co-Cathedral as her day of ceremonies is set to begin with a traditional mass held by the Archbishop Charles Scicluna at arguably Malta’s most iconic church.

There are all of Malta’s top personnel present to see the ceremony dedicated to the country’s new president, including Prime Minister Robert Abela, Leader of Opposition Bernard Grech and former President George Vella who only finished his official duties yesterday after 5 years.

It is tradition that every new president starts their inauguration day with a mass officiated by the current Archbishop at St John’s Co-Cathedral.

In Valletta, preparations are underway for the Presidential Oath of Office ceremony, where Myriam Spiteri Debono, a notary and former parliamentary speaker, is set to become the 11th President of Malta.
