New Outdoor Gym Opens In Marsaxlokk

Mar 28 2025 Share

A new outdoor gym has been installed in Marsaxlokk, with funding from the Capital Projects scheme. This initiative, led by the Directorate for Local Government under the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government, aims to improve public spaces across the country.

The opening of the outdoor gym was attended by the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, alongside Marsaxlokk Mayor Steven Grech and other local council members.

The outdoor gym is there to be used by the public while also making it possible for those participating in free physical exercise classes organized by the local council.

Marsaxlokk Mayor Steven Grech also spoke at the event, explaining that the local council had long recognized the need for such a facility, as the park is frequently used by residents for physical exercise.

“In recent months, we have seen several initiatives from local councils and Regional Committees that have received government funding. This reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening our localities through open spaces, including areas where physical exercise can take place. This ensures that everyone has the right to a healthy and active life.” said Zerafa Civelli.

In a clip shared to the ‘We Are The Overlap’ Facebook page, Jamie Carragher narrated a funny story from when English commentator and former coach Gary Neville got involved with his trip to Malta.

Carragher narrated how an individual listed as ‘Mark Malta’ on his phone contacted him after he was informed by Neville to organise a stay for him – despite the entire trip being entirely booked.

Carragher replied to ‘Mark Malta’ telling him to ignore Neville and promising him to return during summer and stay at the hotel.

To which Mark responded: ‘Jamie, I am ignoring you. Gary’s the boss.’ The message elicited unanimous laughter at the table.

Neville has previously called Malta his second home after spending some time on the island.
