Nico is the son of Muhammed’s daughter Rasheda, who uses her platform to speak-out against social injustices. Nico, in an interview after the fight, said “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone that supported me! I brought my grandfather in the ring with me by wearing his shorts for the first and final time as a professional fighter. I’m more than proud to say: The Legacy Continues.” About being under his grandfather’s shadow he had this to say “I’ve never been able to escape my grandfather, no matter what sport I played,” and continued to say “I’m starting to embrace it. It’s very hard to do, but you have to embrace the legacy, no matter what it is. Everybody becomes stronger when they embrace what they’re destined to do.”

Rehabilitation for aggressive dogs proposed by animal rights activist

Rehabilitation for aggressive dogs proposed by animal rights activist
Aug 17 2021 Share

Following three pit bulls being put down by the Animal Welfare Department, animal activist group Vegan Prism took to Facebook to state how should Malta have had a proper rehabilitation procedure for dogs, they would have been spared. Founded by Robert Xuereb Archer and his partner Roberta Farrugia, the group calls for the possibility of saving aggressive dogs through proper rehabilitation instead of resorting to immediate putting down.

The Animal Welfare department has legal rights to put down aggressive dogs, with Vegan Prism’s post highlighting this. Archer pointed out how precautionary measures such as muzzles should be employed whilst also point out how the problem is that the AW department has the right to take the decision instead of an animal behaviourist. He noted how dogs are very rarely beyond rehabilitation and that such specialised sanctuaries exist abroad. Despite acknowledging that the Animal Welfare department’s decision was not illegal, the group highlighted how the system could be better to help both dogs and people.

Maltese Olympians celebrate achievements with Olympics tattoo

Aug 17 2021 Share

Many Olympians decide to commemorate the games by tattooing the famous 5 rings on their body, and that’s exactly what Maltese athletes Sasha Gatt and Yazmin Zammit Stevens did. This year’s Olympics were the first games for both athletes, with Yazmin becoming the first Maltese woman to take part in weightlifting.

Yazmin Zammit Stevens came in 13th place in the 64kg weightlifting competition. In her Instagram post she stated that she ‘Can’t wait to tell [her] kids one day that their mum was Malta’s first woman to be a weightlifting Olympian’. Young Maltese swimmer Sasha Gatt also got a tattoo to commemorate her amazing accomplishment. The 16-year old competed in both 400m and 1500m races and ranked in 22nd and 33rd place respectively.

Get ready for first rain showers to hit before Vitorja feast

Get ready for first rain showers to hit before Vitorja feast
Aug 17 2021 Share

Malta is set to experience its first rain showers between the 30th of August and the 6th of September, right before Victory Day (Vitorja). The start of September is set to contrast the beginning of August, which saw an intense heat wave hit the Maltese islands.

But it seems as though the feast that celebrates a threefold victory over foreign invaders from Malta’s history will be celebrated with that residue rain smell and a possible refreshing after heatwave after heatwave.

The map shared by Maltese Islands Weather also indicates instability across the central Mediterranean in terms of weather patterns. Despite seeming far away, such indications have rarely been proven wrong.
