Drivers who run over protestors given civil immunity by new Florida ‘Anti-Riot’ bill

Drivers who run over protestors given civil immunity by new Florida ‘Anti-Riot’ bill
Apr 20 2021 Share

A legislation has just been signed by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis that essentially prevents people who run down protestors from being held accountable. The bill will also grant extra protection to police in what is being dubbed as an ‘anti-riot’ bill, as it also include amendments that crack down on protestors’ rights and increase civil unrest penalties. DeSantis called the bill the ‘strongest anti-rioting, pro-law-enforcement piece of legislation in the country.’

The bill becomes an almost ‘get-out-of-jail free card’ for the drivers who run over protestors. the bill, which barely passed in Florida, also redefines what is meant by a ‘riot’, and will deny anyone arrested for rioting the right to bail. Those opposing the bill are claiming that it is simply a way to prevent the freedom to protest and voice concern over social justice.
