Motorcyclist and passenger sustain injuries following incident in Paola

A 65-year-old man and 59-year-old woman from Birzebbuga have sustained grievous and serious injuries respectively after a motorcycle incident in Paola.

Police were called for assistance at Vjal Santa LuΔ‹ija in Paola at around 11:50am after the Honda motorcycle crashed into a barrier and fell.

An ambulance was later called onto the scene to take the victims to Mater Dei Hospital while investigations are currently ongoing.

PM says no general election before full completion of electoral manifesto

Earlier today at a Labour Party event in Mellieħa, Prime Minister Robert Abela stated that a general election will not be held before the full implementation of the electoral manifesto.

Abela looked back at a year of progress for the Labour Government stating “Looking back, I can safely say what a year this has been”, going on to recall the government’s performance during the pandemic.

The Prime Minister also confidently stated that Malta will be one of the first countries to return to normality and called out the naysayers who criticised Abela’s claims that the country will go back to the ‘business-as-usual’ routine.

MHSA release statement calling for immediate action regarding health students’ vaccination

The Malta Health Students Association has released a statement calling for the vaccination of health students along with front-liners and health care professionals, highlighting that they have yet to receive a reply from the relevant authorities.

MHSA has stated that their students have not only maintained their placements but are also working in swabbing hubs and state hospitals, with some students having contracted the virus or having been forced into quarantine.

The statement went on to highlight that these students are tomorrow’s health care professionals and appealed to the Ministry of Health to take them into consideration and take immediate action.

Moderna vaccines expected to arrive in Malta on Sunday

The first shipping of Moderna vaccines is set to arrive in Malta on Sunday, as announced by Health Minister Chris Fearne at a political activity on Sunday morning.

Dr. Fearne announced that Malta will be the first European Union member country to receive the Moderna vaccines after its approval last week.

He went on to state that the government does not exclude further preventive measures if needed and that efforts are being made to speed up the timeline of vaccinations.
