After the fireworks factory exploded, it was reported that 11 people were in the vicinity but that all managed to survive the ordeal. 2 men were reported lightly injured and another was later admitted to Mater Dei. However, one of the men still developed grievous injuries, with his current condition unknown.

Nationalist MPs Joe Giglio and Alex Borg took to social media to call for more police security in Gozo after yet another altercation in Marsalforn left four hospitalised.

Police had been informed on the 5th of June that an argument had broken out between four people in Marsalforn; two Syrians aged 23 and 26, one Polish man aged 25 and a Polish woman aged 29.

A medical team was called onto the scene and later transported the people involved to Gozo’s General Hospital. The 23-year-old Syrian was certified as having suffered grievous injuries with the others suffering light wounds.

MP Alex Borg said in a video that the Police Commissioner must act on the situation and no longer delay sending more police enforcement to Gozo. ‘We want immediate action’ he said.

Giglio also called for similar action, saying that following a press release by him and Borg, Gozitans woke up to yet another altercation nonetheless. ‘This is confirmation of how much police presence is needed on the island.’

This follows a recent altercation which saw the death of 25-year-old  Syrian Fawez Najem, who was murdered in an apartment in Gozo following a brawl which extended from a bar in Marsalforn.

Wales beat Ukraine to qualify for World Cup

Jun 5 2022 Share

Wales have beaten Ukraine in a close game to qualify for their first World Cup since the 1958 edition. The game was very close between the two teams with Ukraine coming close to scoring multiple times.

Most of the neutrals were siding with the Ukraine team due to their current sufferings in the hands of the Russian invasion. Many football personnel such as former Liverpool player Graeme Souness, have argued that FIFA should still send the war torn nation to the prestigious tournament as a sign of solidarity.

The game was very close between the two teams but it was Gareth Bales perfectly placed free kick that separated the nations. The goal didn’t actually come down as Gareth Bale’s but rather as an own goal by Andriy Yarmalenko because of a big deflection by the Ukrainian winger. Wales defender Ben Davies and keeper Wayne Hennessy played insanely well, defending their country’s goal and keeping a clean sheet to send Wales to the World Cup.

The Welsh team will now look forward to a group consisting of USA, Iran and historic rivals England. They will fancy their chances of having a historic run in Qatar.
