According to the latest State of the Nation study, most people in Malta share their problems with the people they live with.
A massive 61.6% said they always talk to their close family when something is wrong. But guess who came last?
Workmates. In 2025, a shocking 57.4% said they never go to their colleagues for help with personal problems.
The study also showed that when it comes to big life decisions – like marriage, children, career, or school – people still turn to one group the most: family.
An incredible 76.4% said they speak to family before making a big choice.
But here’s the twist – nearly half the people (48.4%) said they sometimes make major life decisions on their own, without asking anyone.
Only 1.4% said they turn to their work colleagues when making important choices. That’s almost no one.
So what are the biggest decisions people in Malta say they’ve made in their lives? Most named marriage, kids, job paths and education as the top ones.
This report makes one thing clear: family is still the heart of Maltese life. Whether it’s for advice or support, it’s who you live with that matters most.
