More warnings of strong winds set to hit the island

Meteorological information departments are issuing further warnings of strong winds set to hit the Maltese islands later on today.

The relevant authorities are warning that south-eastern winds will be increasing in force as the days go on, with the warning remaining valid up until around 2300hrs of today. However, the warning could be extended further.

Malta Weather warned of such raging winds yesterday, highlighting how the weather which is set to hit has a high probability of rain showers. South-western winds of Force 4 are to turn to the east and increase to force 5.

The winds are set to increase as the week goes on, with Malta International Airport reporting that winds are set to increase to Forces 6 and 7 during the weekend.

This means that we’ll be celebrating the first official St Patrick’s Day since the pandemic hit under the high chance of rain and strong winds. The gusts of wind are also set to feel around 16 degrees Celsius by mid-week.

Vote documents collectible from local police station as from Wednesday

Those who did not receive their voting document at home, granted that their name appears in the Electoral Register published on 25th February 2022, can physically collect the document at the local police station as of Wednesday 16th March 2022.

Those doing so need to show their ID card in order to collect the document and the option will be available up until Sunday 20th March.

The times are as follows:

From Wednesday to Friday 8am to 1pm and from 3pm to 9pm.

On Saturday between 8am to 10pm.

On Sunday between 8am to 12pm.

First Ukrainian child cancer patient due to arrive in Malta

During a debate between Robert Abela and Bernard Grech organised by the Chamber of SMEs and Malta Daily, the Prime Minister announced that a young Ukrainian girl is due to arrive in Malta to undergo cancer treatment.

The child will be treated at the Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre as part of Malta’s effort to join the humanitarian work which seeks to help the victims of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

During the question and answer session, the Prime Minister revealed that the first young girl with cancer will arrive on the island. Abela thanked cancer charity Puttinu Cares for their help as well as the business community for its generosity in donating to the humanitarian effort.

Malta is one of the several countries in Europe who are taking in cancer patients fleeing Ukraine. So far, 21 children have been airlifted by the UK, with Poland as well taking in vulnerable refugees.

Malta will also be delivering aid to Ukraine, with these including medical and protective equipment and medicines. €1.4 million in medicines was sent over to Ukraine on Saturday morning, said Abela.

Malta has so far taken in 26 refugees who will be staying in the country for the foreseeable future. The prime minister also revealed that the government has drafted economic plans on how to tackle the impact on Malta due to its reliance on Ukraine and Russia on certain resources.
