More than 400,000 in Malta people are now fully vaccinated

Malta has hit a major milestone today as 400,000 individuals are now fully vaccinated, as revealed in today’s COVID-19 update published by saħħa.

A total of 780,770 doses have been administered so far with 401,390 people being fully vaccinated as Malta goes forward with its inoculation schedule.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 update also revealed that a total of 42 COVID-positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, four of whom are in ITU.

Health Minister Chris Fearne also announced that Malta will start recognising Australian vaccine certificates starting Friday, in addition to the list of already accepted vaccine certificates from EU member states, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland, Vatican City, the United Kingdom, UAE, the US, Serbia, Gibraltar, Turkey, Jersey, Guernsey, Qatar and Albania.

14-year old Olympic gold medallist rejects offer of house and money

The family of  14-year old Quan Hongchan has reportedly rejected multiple offers of better housing and more money. Quan recently won gold at the women’s 10m diving event in Tokyo, that win made her insanely famous in China. Her name has been trending all month long on a Chinese edition of Twitter, Weibo.  This has led to many fans going to visit her at her hometown in Maihe.

 

Quan also went viral after an interview in Tokyo, where fans discovered her motives for diving. She said that she does diving to support her mother. Her mother has a publicly unknown sickness, which needs lots of money to ensure it doesn’t worsen. Quan also admitted in Tokyo that “I want to make enough money to support her,”. After hearing this, many fans started to offer her money and according to the Global Times ‘three enterprises in Zhanjiang will provide her with a house, tuck shop and bonus to her, according to the Zhanjiang City Federation of Industry and Commerce. 

All these offers have reportedly been turned down by her father. Quan’s father also has publicly come out shaming the hundreds and thousands of people who come looking for her.

51 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 118

Malta has registered 51 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,417 swab tests, while 118 patients have recovered. No deaths were registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Wednesday 11th August 2021, 780,770 vaccine doses were administered of which 406,414 were 1st doses. 401,390 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 35,091 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 33,079 have recovered, 429 died and 741 are still active.

Mater Dei Hospital is currently treating a total of 42 COVID-19 positive patients, four of whom are in the ITU.

Political parties stand by receiving donations despite harassment claims

Both the Nationalist Party and the Labour Party have stood by their defence of receiving cash donations after outgoing developers’ lobby chief Sandro Chetcuti stated that political parties consistently approach local entrepreneurs and businesspeople for donations.

Chetcuti was interviewed by Times of Malta on Sunday and, in defence of businesspeople, stated that they are not regularly trying to “compromise politicians with donations” but said that it is quite the contrary.

The businessman also highlighted that it sometimes feels like harassment, with the political parties standing by the possibility of receiving donations.
