The highest daily total since last April was registered in the UK at 4,182 COVID-19 cases. 1st April saw 4,479 cases, making this the first time since then to register more than 4,000. With another 10 deaths within 28 days, this marks the third consecutive day in a row in which the UK registered more than 3000 cases.

The UK has administered 700,000 vaccines, with nearly half of the country’s population having received both jabs. There have also been 4,477,705 cases since the pandemic hit, with the death toll reaching up to 127,768.

There was no increase in people being hospitalised however, with UK Health Security Agency chief executive Dr Jenny Harries saying that this happened due to the vaccination’s intended effect. The UK continues to battle the pandemic by approving the single Johnson & Johnson shot earlier today.

Deputy Mayor of St. Paul’s Bay Local Council Carlos Zarb took to Facebook to announce the new signs which prohibit alcohol drinking in public. Zarb stated that there is far more to be done, such as the administering of stickers in commercial establishments and meetings with police officers in order to truly enforce the new By-law.

He pointed out that these acts are carried out and remain ‘ongoing for a number of hours in the same places. In other words I don’t want to hear any excuses.’ People who are found to be breaking the new By-law will receive a €70 fine.

Dusseldorf and Berlin added to Air Malta’s summer schedule

Dusseldorf and Berlin added to Air Malta’s summer schedule
May 29 2021 Share

Air Malta will operate flights to Berlin and Dusseldorf this summer due to strong booking demand coming from the German market. An airline spokesperson told Times of Malta that Air Malta will be adding twice weekly direct services to Dusseldorf and Berlin – with operations to Berlin starting June 28 every Monday and Wednesday, and then to shift to Wednesday and Saturday as of August 4th. Flights to Dusseldorf will start on July 3rd on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Plans to fly to Russia (Moscow) and Israel (Tel Aviv) have been retracted however, all in view of ‘absence of safe corridors between Malta and Israel and between Malta and Russia, and consequential weak booking positions.’ The two countries are still part of Air Malta’s future network plans. With June 1st, the reopening of tourism date, just next Tuesday, Malta seems to be gearing up for a busy summer.
