On the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women, Appoġġ director Remenda Grech reported 400 new cases of domestic violence, with the majority of which being women between 40 and 44 years of age, and 170 of them being granted free legal aid.
Many women are being provided shelter in various government facilities where they can share their traumatic experiences of abuse, with the Għabex centre alone welcome 23 women this year and 52 women, 24 children and 2 dogs in 2019.
CEO for the Foundation for Social Services, Alfred Grixti, encouraged anyone going through abuse to reach out for help rather than suffer in silence because help is available.
