Two Turtles Released At Golden Bay As Fifteen Recover At Xrobb L-Għagin

Jun 30 2025 Share

Two turtles were set free into the sea at Golden Bay after getting help at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Xrobb l-Għaġin.

Minister for the Environment, Miriam Dalli, was there to celebrate with officials from the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) and Nature Trust Malta.

One turtle called ‘Polly Ċensa’ weighed 70kg and had been treated after swallowing a fishing line and hook last year. The other turtle, named ‘Duka’, got caught in some fishing ropes but healed quickly because the cuts were not very deep.

This year, five turtles have been released so far. Meanwhile, fifteen turtles are still getting care at the centre. Turtle nesting season is busy now in Malta. So far, four nests have been found at different beaches, including Ġnejna Bay and Ramla Bay.

If anyone spots turtles nesting, they should call ERA or Nature Trust Malta right away. It is very important not to bother the turtles or their eggs

Prime Minister Robert Abela Pays Tribute To Judge Toni Abela On His Retirement

Jun 30 2025 Share

Prime Minister Robert Abela attended the final court session of Judge Toni Abela, who has reached retirement age after many years of service with great integrity on the judiciary bench. Throughout his career, Judge Abela used his knowledge and experience to faithfully serve the Republic of Malta.

Judge Toni Abela was among the first lawyers in Malta’s history to be appointed as judges after successfully passing the scrutiny of the Committee on Judicial Appointments. This was following reforms that changed the method of appointing judges, removing the power from the Government to directly appoint them.
