KM Malta Airlines Campaign Against Unruly Passenger Behaviour

KM Malta Airlines Campaign Against Unruly Passenger Behaviour
Jun 13 2025 Share

KM Malta Airlines has launched a new social media campaign to raise awareness of the risks posed by disruptive passenger behaviour.

The initiative aligns with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s #NotOnMyFlight campaign and follows industry guidance from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Unruly behaviour is a growing problem in the aviation sector. IATA reports an average of 1.76 incidents per 1,000 flights, with a serious event occurring every three hours in the EU.

KM Malta Airlines is reminding passengers that safety and respect must be upheld at all times, both on the ground and in the air.

While rare, disruptive incidents can lead to serious consequences, including flight delays, diversions, and safety risks. Behaviours such as ignoring crew instructions, using abusive language, smoking or vaping on board, and any form of aggression compromise the calm and control essential to flight safety.

“A safe and respectful cabin environment is essential to the wellbeing of everyone on board,” said Capt. Tyrone Galea, Director Safety & Compliance. Excessive alcohol, though not inherently disruptive, often plays a role in incidents.

David Curmi, Executive Chairman, added: “Respect is not optional at 35,000 feet. We are proud of our strong safety culture and are committed to protecting it.”
