A brief pause on heat waves to make way for thunderstorms in mid-July

A brief pause on heat waves to make way for thunderstorms in mid-July
Jun 30 2022 Share

From one weather extreme to another as according to forecasting portals, further heatwaves are unlikely for the middle of July. Instead, we might be facing massive thunderstorms.

According to Facebook page ‘Malta Weather’, ‘July 2022 looks like it will be another hotter-than-average month across Malta and Gozo, probably starting off with the continuation of the current very hot conditions.’

‘However, further heatwaves are not likely at this stage. Indeed, around mid-July, we could have a Summer crisis as an upper-level trough may bring either COOL and gusty northwesterly winds and/or the chance of an isolated THUNDERSTORM!’

As of yet, the weather will remain all around scorching, with the Malta International Airport forecasting a week of sunny skies with blistering temperatures at 38 degrees Celsius.

For now, we can rest assured that we’ll be over-working our air conditioning systems as the heat persists. Health warnings are still applicable, urging hydration, the wearing of sunscreen and other preventive measures.

Company preserves tattoos of dead relatives to turn them into artworks

Company preserves tattoos of dead relatives to turn them into artworks
Jun 30 2022 Share

Tattoos have become a staple form of art in most cultures and, as the overall  stigma surrounding them subsides, a new company has found an interesting way of preserving them.

Bodies decay and, along with them, so the tattoos. To combat this, Save My Ink Forever, a US based company, has started transforming the tattoos of loved ones into permanent pieces of framed art work.

The process, which has been independently developed by the business, alters the chemical structure of the skin and allows the tattoo to be preserved. Working with a private funeral homes, the company has now extended to Canada and even the UK.

The company explained how when a loved one passes away, the family can contact them to see if the funeral home or crematory can provide their services.

Once the inking has been removed, the art is usually ready by around three months, with tattoo preservationist Kyle Sherwood doing his best to enhance and do the needed touch ups.

“Our framing artist will pair a frame to best suite the style of the tattoo, accompanied with museum quality UV glass. Pricing is based on the size of the tattoo.” He highlighted how this isn’t any different from taking ashes and turning them into diamonds or making necklaces from the hair of the deceased.
