Local model and Miss Mosta 2024 titleholder, Edera Fenech, opened up about a deeply emotional chapter of her life, sharing her personal battle with anorexia nervosa and raising awareness about the mental health condition.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Fenech revealed her desire to support others facing the same struggles, noting that her own experience with the disorder inspired her to choose anorexia as her advocacy for this year’s Miss Malta 2024 competition.
She highlighted that anorexia is often misunderstood as solely a dieting issue, when in reality, it is tied to deeper challenges such as low self-esteem, negative body image, and a host of other factors.
Fenech also pointed out that although anorexia is more commonly reported in women, it can affect anyone. She shared that the disorder is increasingly being diagnosed in men, young boys, and even children as young as seven.
In her post, she emphasized, “The idea of recovery might seem overwhelming or scary, especially if you’re afraid of gaining weight or losing control. You might not feel ready to face it just yet. But remember, it is possible to get better, even if the journey takes time.”
Fenech stressed the importance of advocacy, recognizing that being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves can create a powerful impact. “We know that there is strength in numbers, and every voice matters,” she said.
She concluded her inspiring post by expressing gratitude to Miss Malta for giving her the platform to advocate for those battling anorexia every day, allowing her to raise awareness and offer hope to others in similar situations.
