Miriam Dalli officially opens Victor Calvagna Garden after €1 million investment

The Mosta garden dedicated to the memory of beloved paediatric oncologist and Puttinu Cares founder Dr. Victor Calvagna has finally been inaugurated.

In the presence Minister Miriam Dalli, Mosta Scouts and Mosta Girl Guides, together with a number of other stakeholders, it was announced that the garden received a €1 million investment financed by the Social Fund for National Development. It will include a children’s play area, physical exercise equipment, a running track, canopy area and even a zone dedicated for the planting of fruits & vegetables.

Taking over from two young representatives for the Scouts and Girl Guides, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli said that there is nothing better than an endorsement from the area’s youth. Dalli expressed her pleasure in having 4000 square-meters of open space in the heart of Mosta, as opposed to having 4000 square-meters of developed area.

WATCH: Crowd erupts as Kevin Hart gifts goat named ‘Will Smith’ to Chris Rock

During the comedy show Rock Hart: Only Headliners, headlined by Chris Rock and Kevin Hart, the latter gifted his fellow headliner a goat named ‘Will Smith’ as a joke.

This comes a few months after the infamous Oscars altercation between Rock and Smith where Rock, who was hosting the award show, made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Smith. The ‘slap heard around the world’ went on to make the global rounds on social media, becoming a trending moment in international pop culture.

Kevin Hart who is known for making hard-hitting jokes, came out on stage with a goat as a present for Chris Rock. The joke was later made when guest Dave Chapelle asks what’s the goat’s name and is quickly answered by Hart who reveals that the goat’s name is actually Will Smith.

This leads to the crowd bursting out with laughter, making Hart sarcastically ask the crowd what he said wrong.

In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, Hart does reveal that “Chris is a mentor, friend, inspiration,” and admits “he’s a large part of the reason that I am where I am today in my career just from his advice, his insight, etcetera, and he’s my G.O.A.T.”

Marsa mayor call for more police protection for residents

The mayor of Marsa Josef Azzopardi has called for more police protection for residents from “people who frequent Marsa, many of whom are foreigners”, sharing his sentiments in a recent Facebook post.

Azzopardi begins his post by saying that in these last few years a lot of progress has occurred in Marsa when it comes to making enforcement better. This happened with the help of the local council, the police department of Marsa and the district.

Despite these, such efforts are still not enough for Azzopardi who wants even more help from the police when it comes to protecting residents from potentially dangerous people who locate themselves inside Marsa. He also went on to state that this sentiment is shared with all residents and is not something only he thinks should happen.

The mayor ended the post by promising that he will continue to work hard with the police and other local councils in order for better enforcement to make Marsa residents feel safer.

Study in UK ranks Malta as 7th best country in commuting

While this come may as a shock to a considerable number of local commuters, a recent study carried out by UK based company Uswitch ranked Malta as the 7th best country to live in when it comes to commuting.

The aspects considered when it comes to this study were time taken to get to work and/or school and how expensive that journey might be, amongst others.

Another aspect taken into consideration was environmental measures, which included the number of electric transport vehicles available and the amount of charging points found along the way. The amount of CO2 emmissions per individual was also recorded.

The study found that the average fuel price per litre came about to be €1.33 whilst the average monthly public transport pass cost is around €25.81.

The study also revealed that the average commute time in Malta happened to be 26 minutes whilst the total number of public charging stations in Malta is 155. The total commute emissions per capita also happened to be 3.0.

Overall Malta was given a score of 6.01 out of 10 when it comes to commute. Do you agree?
