Posting to Facebook, Social Accommodation minister Roderick Galdes opened up about his decision to contribute to the ban of animal circuses in Malta. Today, 21st October 2021, is the seven year anniversary of when the law, which Roderick Galdes worked on, came into effect. He stated how he looks back with satisfaction at his personal career and observes how certain decisions which were taken then were not easy choices to make in a different local context.
He however exclaims how he was sure this decision to end animal circuses, despite probably being against mainstream currents, was motivated with the future in mind and with good reason. The bill was approved back in 2014, including amendments to also have harsher criminal sanctions against those who are found guilty of animal cruelty. Galdes said that this decision improves our conscience when it comes to the safeguarding of animal life, with many supporting his view. Some praised Galdes for his standing up for the voiceless creatures we share the world with, and others outright condemning animal circuses as cruelty.
