COVID-19 vaccination tests for kids underway by several companies

COVID-19 vaccination tests for kids underway by several companies
Mar 27 2021 Share

Vaccine researchers in the US and abroad have started to test younger kids in order to ensure COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective for all ages. The first shots are being administered to adults who are at risk but the plan will have to inevitably extend to vaccinating children in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson aim to to see whether vaccines are effective in children. With data showing mRNA shots work in pregnant women, Pfizer has already started testing its shot on children aged 6 months to 11 years. Young children may need different doses than teens and adults, as Moderna recently began a study similar to Pfizer’s in trying to allocate the right dosage for each age group. Given that COVID-19 seems to spread in schools amongst children easily, this research will help in the global battle against the pandemic through vaccination.
