Malta Football Association President Bjorn Vassallo had the opportunity to meet Italian football legend Roberto Baggio while in the United States.
“Very few like him,” wrote Vassallo as he shared a photo with the former star. “Footballer for real.”
Baggio is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. A creative playmaker and freekick specialist, he was known for his incredible technique, dribbling ability, and goalscoring instinct.
He played primarily as a second striker or attacking midfielder, starring for top Italian clubs including Fiorentina, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter, and Brescia.

He was named FIFA World Player of the Year and won the Ballon d’Or in 1993. In total, Baggio scored 318 career goals, with 205 of those in Serie A, making him one of the league’s all-time top scorers. He is also one of only three Italians to score in three different World Cups.
Known as “Il Divin Codino” (The Divine Ponytail), Baggio remains one of football’s most iconic and respected figures.
