Metsola Addresses Bombing Of Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist Hospital

Speaking during the opening of the plenary of the European Parliament, President Roberta Metsola addressed the bombing of Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist hospital.

‘As EU leaders met yesterday in an extraordinary European council meeting, the Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist hospital in Gaza was bombed and hundreds of innocent lives were lost’, said Metsola.

‘The devastation of a hospital is horrific and unjustifiable and we must ensure we continue to shed light on what happened. As the tragedy in the Middle East continues to unfold it is once again the innocent who are forced to pay the price.’

She went on to say that we must ‘remain clear that protecting civilian lives must keep being a priority. We cannot lose sight of the humanitarian consequences. This has always been our core message.’

Research On Health And Wellbeing Of Maltese Population

During a press conference it was announced that a new research on the metabolism of the Maltese population will be carried out. The research entitled ‘Analysis of the metabolic status of the Maltese population: a nested cohort study’, which will be carried out in collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation and the University of Malta, is a follow-up of another study which was carried out between 2014 and 2016 under the name of ‘SAHĦTEK – The University of Malta Health and Wellbeing study’, led by Dr Sarah Cuschieri.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti said, “This type of research is important as it gives us results that can improve people’s quality of life. We look forward to have more research of this type that is able to lead us to improving the services we are currently providing Maltese and Gozitan citizens.”

He concluded by thanking and auguring the researchers who will work on this project with a subject as important as human health.

The Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Matthew Vella reiterated that the studies carried out should continue to be updated over time and followed up with other studies. “Things change over time and thus we have the duty to follow these studies with follow-up studies that lead to some kind of innovation, leaving a tangible impact in people’s lives,” concluded Matthew Vella.

The two researchers were also present during the conference; Dr Sarah Cuschieri who led the primary study from 2014 and 2016, and Dr Elizabeth Grech who will be leading this research. In their speech they explained that the primary study was carried out to see the current state of health of the citizens in the Maltese islands, particularly in human metabolism. This research, which will be a follow-up study of the primary one, will lead to the knowledge of diseases and their consequences that could have arisen in the same patients that were diagnosed in the first study, while shedding light on the causes that could have led to these diseases, including Covid-19.

Messi Expected To Lift His 8th Ballon D’Or This Year

Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi is expected to lift his 8th Ballon D’Or, various leaks and sports journalists are reporting.

Taking to social media, acclaimed sports journalist Fabrizio Romano shared a post with a caption reading:

‘BREAKING: Lionel Messi has won his 8th Ballon D’Or, Dario Sport has revealed. No official and formal confirmation yet but once again, clear indication from Spanish media…’

Further leaks have also suggested Messi’s achievement, and if this is true, it would be the first time the award would be awarded to someone who plays outside of Europe.

This comes after Messi joined Inter Miami in July after having moved from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Ballon D’Or 2023 raised eyebrows after Cristiano Ronaldo was not nominated, making it the first time the player was not on the list in about 20 years.

Esplora’s own circus master will take centre stage with an explosive science show entitled Science on Fire. The show will feature flames, sparks and jaw-dropping experiments and visitors will be able to immerse themselves in a world of coloured flames, dancing sparks and mind-bending explosions.

Two very amazing workshops are Spelltacular and Gross Dissections.

With Spelltacular, you will be able to step back to 1620, where magic and science collides. Time-travelling alchemists will unveil the secrets behind ‘magical’ experiments and reveal the science that makes all this possible.

Gross Dissections is a captivating workshop where visitors will dive deep into the science of our bodily systems and explore the mysteries hidden within our organs, whilst witnessing the wonders of organ dissections.
