MEP Candidate Peter Agius Plays Football in Last Few Days of Campaigning

A recent video making the rounds on social media shows Nationalist Party representative and MEP candidate Peter Agius play football with a group of youths as we enter the last week of election campaigning.

Malta’s MEP and local council hopefuls have entered their last few days of campaigning as they attempted to secure a coveted seat in either local council or Parliament on June 8th.

Based on information shared by the Electoral Commission, Malta saw a strong early voting turnout on June 1st, with an approximate turnout of 87.77% for local council elections and an approximate turnout of 87.87% for European Parliament Elections. People eligible to vote early were individuals who had declared they will be abroad on the voting day and residents of 35 elderly homes.

Another round of early voting will take place on Tuesday, where those participating in the electoral process on Saturday will be eligible, and on Thursday, when hospital patients can vote.

Malta National Team and PGE FKS Stal Mielec player Matthew Guillaumier has announced his engagement to his partner, Rebecca McCarthy. The news was shared through a heartfelt Instagram post, where the couple expressed their excitement about their future together.

The Instagram post featured a touching photo of Matthew and Rebecca with their dog, set against the backdrop of what could very well be their future home. Accompanying the images and video, the caption read, “to a lifetime together,” signalling their commitment and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.

Guillaumier, known for his skills on the football field, has now scored the biggest goal yet. The star player’s engagement to McCarthy has been met with warm congratulations from fans, friends, and fellow athletes. On Saturday, 53 recruits were officially sworn in as Police Constables during a passing out parade held at the Academy for Disciplined Forces. The event was attended by Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri, and Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà.

In his speech, Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà emphasised that while the Malta Police Force is one of the oldest institutions of its kind, it has evolved into a modernised force focused on professionalism and efficiency. Gafà highlighted that public opinion surveys, both local and European, consistently show that the majority of Maltese and Gozitan people have confidence in the Police Force and its officers.

“These very positive results are the merit of motivated officers who daily provide professional service in partnership with our communities.”

Malta Sees Strong Early Voter Turnout in Local and MEP Elections

On June 1st, 2024, early voting in Malta for the Local Councils and European Parliament elections saw impressive participation rates, according to the Electoral Commission. The data indicates a strong voter turnout ahead of the official election day on Saturday, June 8th.

For the Local Councils elections, 16,135 voters were registered, and 14,163 of them cast their votes, resulting in an approximate turnout of 87.77%. Similarly, the European Parliament elections witnessed a high turnout. Out of 15,979 registered voters, 14,041 exercised their right to vote, marking an approximate turnout of 87.87%.

People eligible to vote early were individuals who had declared they will be abroad on the voting day and residents of 35 elderly homes. Another round of early voting will take place on Tuesday, where those participating in the electoral process on Saturday will be eligible, and on Thursday, when hospital patients can vote.
